Generations of Exceptional
Surveying
From its beginning in 1962 to the present, Hein Surveying has grown from the initial part-time company run from the family home to a full-time surveying service firm located at its current location at 57486 Mine Street, in Calumet. Hein Surveying serves Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties, offering a full range of surveying services including boundary surveys, lot surveys, parcel splits, Section subdivisions, mortgage reports, subdivisions, GPS services and mapping and CAD services. Hein Surveying has records dating back to the very early 1900’s; historic maps and field books from at least seven area surveyors, as well as records from four more recent surveyors.
Choosing a Surveyor
When selecting a land surveyor, experience, accuracy, and local knowledge make all the difference. At Hein Surveying, those qualities are built on more than 60 years of family tradition and professional service throughout Michigan’s Copper Country. Since 1962, three generations of licensed surveyors have combined historic records, modern technology, and firsthand knowledge of the land to deliver results clients can rely on. Whether you’re buying property, settling a boundary, or starting a development project, Hein Surveying provides the expertise and integrity you need to make confident land decisions.

We cannot recommend the Hein Surveying team enough! We live out of state and both Matt and Steven made the entire process of getting our property surveyed, flagged, and brushed a breeze. It was important to us that we worked with a local firm who was knowledgeable about the area and respected in the Keweenaw community, and Hein Surveying checked all of the boxes. When I visited last fall, Matt even walked the property with me so that I could understand the pin locations and know exactly where our property boundaries were located. That level of personal service and professional care was extremely appreciated – we would absolutely use them again and recommend them to anyone looking for professional surveying services on the peninsula!

A Legacy of Surveying
The Hein family’s surveying legacy spans more than six decades and three generations of dedication to accuracy, integrity, and community service. What began in 1962 as Charles Hein’s part-time surveying business has grown into a trusted, full-service firm serving Michigan’s Copper Country. Charles passed on both his tools and his passion for the profession to his son, Steve, who expanded the company and built its reputation for quality work and personal service. Today, Steve’s son, Matt, continues that proud tradition — blending modern surveying technology with the same values of precision and reliability that have defined Hein Surveying since the beginning.
